I have heard of Spud Bro's through my brother and came on high recommendation. So decided to check it out with dad on way back from Skegness after dropping brother off.

So what exactly is Spud Bro's, well, fancy jacket potatoes, with lots of different toppings. Easy way to describe Spud Bro's is like a slightly more scaled back versions of Subway in terms of topping options. But don't let that put you off.

Originally, when my brother talked about Spud Bro's he made it sound like a independent jacket potato place near Boston in Lincolnshire. So i did my research online before deciding to check it out and found its part of a chain of restaurants. But that's not necessarily a bad thing, you can expect a certain level of options and customer service from a chain place.

This aside, like any new place, there is the menu, and i was really surprised that it was a smaller menu than other places, but this is a good thing, as if you spend too long looking at a menu you are completely lost on what to order at the end.

Me and dad decided to try the Garlic Chill Chicken, the meal, including a drink come to £12 each, which i didn't think was too bad, having the night before, paid a visit to our local pizza express with mum & dad, the bill came to over £100, so not the cheapest of meals, sure the pizza is tasty.

Anyway, there are 9 main base combinations you can have, some more expensive than others. Me and dad opted for a more expensive on as it sounded really good and thought an extra £1 wouldn't dent the old wallet. But seriously, well worth it.

I've had jacket potatoes before some topped and some not, and this was a nice surprise, like Subway, you get to choose, single or double helpings of toppings, then the main topping, and some finishing toppings, they try to up sell you, but we stuck by our guns and went for single cheese as supposed to double. To be honest, i think double, and the rest of the dish would have been lost in a sea of cheese. Some people might like this, but not for me or dad.

Usually, at new places i struggle, maybe its my ND / mental health mind, but i struggle to try new things at times, but decided to give it a go, and the toppings all went well with the jacket potato really did. Even some fresh herbs, so can't be bad. Dad didn't fancy fresh chilli's on his, but i decided to give it a go and there was a bit of a kick, but not loads, saying that, i have built up quite a tolerance to hot food. This is coming from someone who would seek out the hottest spiciest food out there. So, what they call, hot at Nados is not that hot, same with Buffalo sauce at Pizza Express, bit let down.

I am not sure if its the same at other branches but there was a small seating area, so you could sit down and enjoy the food without being huddled up in a car with risk of splattering food ending up in the car.

Anyway, back to Spud Bros, for the price and the flavour of the humble spud and all its toppings, it was really good. In this day and age of prices rising and finding somewhere to eat out that isn't going to break the bank Spud Bros is actually a refreshing change. So would highly recommend them.
