Thought i would make the most of the bank holiday Monday by heading over to my local seaside town Skegness or Skegvegas to some.
I have been going to Skegness for years, when my nan was alive, we used to visit her as a family once a month. It was hard after she passed to go back to Skegness but then i found new meaning for going. I looked within to those fond childhood memories and, thanks to couple of holidays there, i have found my love for Skegness again.
What can you expect from this charming seaside town, well, it has lots for people to do of all age ranges, whether you want to go for a day trip or stay on holiday there is more than enough to keep you entertained from the Pier through to the fun fair with plenty of places to eat and drink along the way.
Along the seafront there are ice cream Shops selling all sorts of flavours and flavour combinations, more so than when i used to visit in my childhood and the prices are reasonable. This is the same for most of Skegness meals, drinks etc at budget prices. Or, you could do what we did as a family growing up, take a pack up, i have many fond memories of heading over to skeg with Mum, Dad and my brother in the car with a pack up. Sandwiches, crisps and fizzy drinks. Who doesnt love pack up.
How much does it cost?
Todays trip, cost about £15-£20 for petrol, and around £5 for drinks and refreshments. Best of all parking was free, i have a very simple tip to park at a seaside town for free, it doesnt always work. But instead of heading straight towards a pay and display car park. Have a drive around the side roads near the seafront. Sometimes, if you are lucky you can get parked up for free, but be warned watch out for the hidden signs otherwise you might get a fine. Sure, this, was a fairly cheap day trip out, but then i didn''t go on any arcade machines which i have done in the past. It was nice to just go for a wander around.
What is there to do in Skegness?
There is probably too much to mention. But Skegness has lots for people to do, from a walk along the pier, classic car shows, the theatre, fun fair, arcades, plenty of places to eat and drink, you also have fantasy island down the road which is an indoor market with a fun fair and some more arcades. Kids can ride on donkeys, walks along the seafront are fantastic and is nice to see the sea and sand looking so clean.
But what about those adults on holiday who fancy a dance and couple of drinks. Well, there is a couple of night clubs in skeg and bars as well.
How long does it take to get to Skegness?
This depends on a couple of things, whether you are going by car, bus or train. If going by bus or train then you may be required to change bus or trains. By car it takes about an hour from Spalding. If you take the old Skegness road, then there are several speed restrictions in place which will slow your Journey down a bit.
Conclusion
I think Skegness is a fantastic seaside town, i always get fond childhood memories when i go, plenty to see and do, the day is as expensive or as cheap as you want it to be. The drive isnt too bad and quicker than public transport depending on where you are coming from.
So go and check it out, see the Photos below of Skegness.
