Today, i decided to head over with dad to our local cinema, the Showcase in Peterborough, to catch a film. The film we decided to watch was Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.
On to business
Warning this article may contain spoilers.
If you haven't seen the earlier reboot films then i highly recommend you watch them before seeing this one as Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes nicely follows on from the previous films. I have seen all of the planet of the apes films, where, the reboot ones differ from the originals is there is no time travelling paradox which really bugged me in the original films.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, nicely mirrors certain bits of the original films in little ways. But what i found with this film, compared to previous, is it was more about war within in different clans of apes themselves. The film starts showing the passing of casar and then sets the film up for several generations further down and is the story of friendship between 3 apes and there adventure. Throughout the film there is a reminances of old human civalization even thought nature has taken over but this showed the passing of time well. The film also brings a young female human called nova, who is not who she appears to be as the film goes on her true nature unravels, i must say the actresses performance was brilliant and not what i was expecting. In the very first reboot film of this series there is a key plot plant of humans settling on mars, this film starts to build on that a bit. With a race for humans hiding away trying to contact those on mars.
The film has a few surprises up its sleve so to speak and a few unexpected moments which adds to the film. But the theme i got from this film was about family and friendship which is throughout this film.
I must say from a tech point, the use of CGI blended with actual reality is done really well and is hard to spot the CGI.
Conclusion
Would i go again, the simple answer is yes, i thought the film was fantastic, with a good mixture of action & adventure at a old style slower build up to the climax in the film. This being the second film i've seen recently thats done that, which is fantastic. Dad also seemed to enjoy himself.
