As well, as being a IT guru, and having some hobbies. Over the years I've cut peoples hair. Now i don't claim to be a experienced Barber as it takes years of practice to cut hair correctly. Some people go to college to learn, whilst some pick it up naturally. It all started in my late teens when a friend asked me to give it a go at cutting their hair. Having never done this before, my mate had a set of clippers, so i borrowed these to give it a go and the results wernt too bad.
One of my strengths is i can look at someone doing something and get the general gist of it. I used to watch the barbers cutting my hair whilst having a chin wag. From what i've noticed there is different cutting techniques depending on the length and style someone wants.
The set of clippers i used werent that expensive, infact i think about £20-30 from argos years ago. I have since ventured into cutting hair with sizzors and a comb.
You need to cut the hair in such a way that there are no obvious cut lines and this takes practice for a smooth sharper look.
You need to make sure youre sizzors are sharp and no gaps between the blades otherwise the hair won't cut properly.
I find that wetting the hair slightly makes it easier to cut. By using your fingers as a guide you can get the same length all over. Some times you can use a combination of clippers and comb / sizzors to do a hair cut. The clippers are good at blending / grading hair. You might do this when you would do a short back and sides. Always take care when cutting round ears.
Ideal place for cutting the hair is in a tilled / lino floor as this allows for mess to easily be swept up using a brush. I find using a towel, which will wash later, ideal for stopping the persons hair, who you are cutting, from getting on their clothes.
It is ideal to make sure that the persons hair is fully washed before cutting as hair naturally builds up grease and this can make it harder to cut.
My latest hair cutting victims are my parents and below are a few photographs of me cutting their hair.
Hope you like them.
