For all you Star Wars, not Star Trek fans, i had the pleasure to visit today the Unofficial Galaxies event at Peterborough Cathedral.
I had heard about this event either through friends or on the radio, so advertising does pay off.
I was accompied by my dad on this trip, who also really enjoyed it.
The day started off leaving Spalding via car, but we could have taken the train, as the Cathedral, is within walking distance of the train station. We arrived at Peterborough and parked in Queens gate multi story car park. What i really like is its a pay afterwards car park. I think these are the best as you can be as long as you like and not have to worry about racing around etc. Too much stress.
We walked through Queens gate to the Cathedral on the way we saw the Cathedral cafe, which by the way isnt too bad on price.
The event was well sign posted leading upto the Cathedral. We hadn''''t booked tickets and planned to buy them when we got there. There were two lanes you could go down, one for pre-booked (online) tickets, and the other lead you to the ticket desk / gift Shop. Yep, you heard it right there is a gift Shop filled with star wars and Christian stuff.
The ticket desk staff were really helpful and polite. Two adult tickets cost us £20, which is £10 each, not the cheapest for the type of the event, but being a Cathedral the money they raise, i imagine, goes for maintenace of the building. I just think it might be a tad expensive if you have a big family and are planning to go.
Once we had bought the tickets we headed over to where directed by the ticket desk. They checked our tickets and let us in.
There was lots to see, mainly costumes and some models, but for the price, i just felt it lacked something, something i can''''t put my finger on. Sure what i did see was cool, but for £10 a ticket, for roughly 15-20 minutes looking around felt expensive. If it was £5 per adult i could understand. Also it could have done with some stalls selling cool stuff like you get at comic con. This is what i am trying to compare this event to being sci fi and having being to a few events in the past.
There were toilets located, which were accesible via a side door, if you got caught short, whilst looking around, meaning no stamp on your hand and having to come back into the event.
The event was faily busy with a mixture of people looking around, some with young families, so an ideal local event for those little ones. I guess this event applies to people of all ages and backgrounds.
I was commenting to dad about R2D2 and how they made the robot move, look into it if you get a minute, to which a woman said i didnt know that.
Overall, i would give this event 3.5 out of 5, mainly for ticket price cost and lack of that something for the event, maybe a couple of stalls, or some light saber battles.
Hope you enjoyed this article, i have taken plenty of photographs, pretty one of each of what was there, if you fancied having a look and saving yourself £10.
